Honorable Mentions

This section is devoted to those games that didn’t quite make the cut, probably lacking in some areas or just do not have mass appeal.

Brain Genius Deluxe
This is one of those brain training games that tried to make it fun to keep your brain active, whether you believe these types of games will improve your brain or not this is still a fun game to play. It’s been around on the Android Market for as long as I can remember and has always been a great free app. There are plenty of little mini games to help keep your brain working either based on touch screen interaction or tilting/flicking the phone in the direction you need to. These touch and tilt controls make the game that little bit more exciting and a little more fun. The reason this is in the honorable mentions section is that they added adverts to the game and there are a few control issues, like laggy touch input and tilting/flicking either not working sometimes or interpreting the wrong gesture.

Games For Robots
A strangely named app that emulates the popular warioware games where you are given only a few seconds to complete a quick task on the screen. As you beat the minigames the game gets faster and faster making it more challenging as you go. This makes you think quick on your feet to figure out what action you have to perform and then how to do it. The graphics are very simple and retro in most places, a reason why this is in the honorable mentions as I don’t think it’s to everyone’s tastes, the game could also use a little more finishing off in the menus but this game is updating fast and has already improved a whole lot from when it first appeared.

Trism
This is a fun little game that is a little like Bejeweled but with a different take. The idea is to move rows to create groups of colours which will then react and disappear, new block will slide onto the screen but by tilting the phone you can decide which angle they come in from to maximise your combos and points. The graphics are nice and shiny if a little simple and the game plays pretty well. This game is demoted to honorable mentions because as far as I’m aware it is no longer available on the Market, the developer has never updated it and has abandoned the Android platform altogether I think. A good game, if you can get it.

Flight Director
I popped this in the honorable mentions section as this is a fun little game but lacks any real depth or difficulty curve, but the gameplay mechanic is solid and worth a play it’s another one of those games you’ll probably have fun picking up for 5 minutes or so when you have the time. The simple premise is to drag a line from the plane to the landing strip or helipad so they can land safely. The challenge comes in trying not to let the planes crash into each other. You’ll be frantically rerouting aircraft to try and avoid collisions.

These are by no means full reviews, just my impressions. Again, if you have any games to add or any comments on the games or my post please chat it up in the comments below.

Greedy Pirates is another free game worth giving a try. You have to see how far you can shoot a cannon ball by shaking and tilting your phone. My best so far is 5324 http://greedypirates.trevorboyle.com/

Or maybe he left them out because they’re rubbish. Well, they’re as good as racing games on a phone can be… but that’s not very good. They look fancy but I tire of them in minutes.
